Originally issued as a YA trilogy called the King’s Daggers (including volumes Sir Stalwart, The Crooked House, and Silvercloak), The Monster War works equally well as a single novel. The story fills a gap in the first Blades novel, The Gilded Chain, when King Ambrose sought to shut down the evil sorcery of the Elementaries, and the sorcerers fought back by trying to kill him. The same great characters are all here Ambrose himself, Grand Master, and Blades Durendal, Bandit, and Snake. Appearing for the first time are Sir Stalwart, the only Blade who does not bear a binding scar, and Emerald of the White Sisters, the only girl ever enrolled in Ironhall. The action wanders across Chivial from the White Sisters’ headquarters at Oakendown, to Grandon, and into the heart of Ironhall, for the evil penetrates even there. If you missed this one the first time (and most Blades fans did), then here is your chance to join the action as the King’s Blades ride again!
The Monster War A Tale of the Kings' Blades King Blades Book 2 eBook Dave Duncan
I have enjoyed Dave Duncan's work for many years, and this was no exception. Normally, if a story is this good, I would just say 'go for it'. However, it is definitely aimed at the YA audience, and though quite suitable for the grown-ups, the main character's juvenility grated a bit. He only picked up at the end. This is not a criticism of the story, but a heads-up to the reader. if you are YA, this is a good romp, or an old duck like me, desperately searching for books in my favourite genre, this is a good read.Product details

The Monster War A Tale of the Kings' Blades King Blades Book 2 eBook Dave Duncan Reviews
This book is somewhat simplistic, but it is still an entertaining read and well worth the price and time if you like to read.
All of the kings blades books are excellent, and these three are no exception. Unlike the others which all follow deferent heroes, these three all follow sir Stalwart.
If your a fan of Dave Duncan this is a must have!
I love Dave Duncan's series with the Blades. What a great series of books and I highly recommend them all! Love his sense of humor in them.
This book could make me laugh and and scary parts too for three of my bad fibromyalgia days. even a little romance! But,you know, with violence.
For my money Dave Duncan is one of the most underrated fantasy writers in the business today. His books are always entertaining. He comes up with amazing worlds, sets the rules of magic clearly and then fills them with great characters.
All three of the king's daggers books in one. Duncan at his best. Intrigue and swashbuckling abounds in this classic. Worth the price and it is not necessary to read all the other king' s blades books to enjoy this one.
I had read this book back when it was a series of 3 books. I like it better as one book. If I had to recommend a book as an opener to this world of Mr. Duncan, this would be the one I would recommend.
